A Canadian law firm, representing a plaintiff who claims Sony has breached her privacy, is suing the company and all its subsidiaries for $1 billion Canadian dollars.
21 year old Natasha Maksimovic (not pictured above) has enlisted the services of Toronto law firm McPhadden Samac Tuovi LLP to claim damages in excess of $1 billion (Canadian) against all Sony subsidiaries, including Sony Japan, Sony USA and Sony Canada. Maksimovic claims that Sony has breached her privacy and must "pay the costs of credit monitoring services and fraud insurance coverage for two years."
"If you can't trust a huge multi-national corporation like Sony to protect your private information, who can you trust?" Maksimovic said, proving she's never played Final Fantasy VII or indeed dealt with a huge multi-national corporation before. "It seems Sony focuses more on protecting its games than its PlayStation users."
Sony has 20 days to file a statement of defense.

Sony's blog today assured us they are in the final stages of system restoration, but are hackers planning another attack?
Sony's PlayStation Blog announced earlier today that they have "[begun] the final stages of internal testing of the new system, an important step towards restoring PlayStation Network and Qriocity services."
But according to an article on CNet, the same group that targeted Sony originally is planning another attack. "An observer of the Internet Relay Chat channel used by the hackers told CNET today that a third major attack is planned this weekend against Sony's Web site. The people involved plan to publicize all or some of the information they are able to copy from Sony's servers, which could include customer names, credit card numbers, and addresses."
The potential attack would be an important test of Sony's newly implemented security measures, but another security breach, especially one clearly telegraphed ahead of time, could be devastating to the already beleaguered brand.
Anonymous continues to claim non-involvement with the hack, writing in a letter published to the Internet: "While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our 'leadership' does not condone credit card theft."

According to a "source close to Sony," the company is considering offering a reward to anyone who can provide details that lead to the arrest of the PlayStation Network hackers.
Arik Hesseldahl, from New Enterprise, claims that Sony “hasn’t reached a final decision concerning whether it will offer a reward, and may decide not to do it at all, but the option is on the table.”
Apprehending the perpetrators who brought down Sony’s online PS3 service on April 18 and then caused Sony Online Entertainment network services to be taken offline on May 2 is a high priority for Sony, but offering a reward would suggest that it's no closer to tracking down the culprits, or that it needs stronger evidence from those in the know. A cash reward may well cause people close to the hackers to come forward.
Hesseldahl claims that a reward could be set up in conjunction with the FBI, but would first need to be given the go ahead from Sony executives at the company’s Tokyo headquarters.
“If Sony does decide to offer a reward, it will do so in cooperation with law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the relevant law enforcement agencies in other countries,” writes Hesseldahl.
“The discussions around the pros and cons of offering a reward are not complete and would require the sign-off of senior Sony executives in Tokyo, who have not given their go-ahead, these people say. The reward is being considered as one of many options Sony is mulling in consultation with law enforcement to try to jar loose any information on the identity of the attackers.”
Hacking collective “Anonymous” are expected to be behind the security breach after a file bearing their name appeared on an SOE server. The group has since come forward to deny the allegation. Meanwhile, the PlayStation Network and Sony’s online services are still down while the company continues to tighten security and search for the hackers.
