PSN: dados comprometedores à venda

Segundo informações disponibilizadas no seu Twitter, Kevin Stevens, um perito da empresa de segurança em serviços de rede Trend Micro, afirma que os hackers que invadiram a PSN estão, neste momento, a vender informação comprometedora em diversos fóruns.

Esta mesma informação, que segundo Stevens foi "oferecida" à Sony por um preço mas a empresa nipónica recusou, inclui dados como primeiro nome e apelido, morada, e-mail, data de nascimento, password, número de telefone e, segundo consta, dados relativos ao cartão de crédito, como a data em que este expira e o próprio código de segurança, o CVV2.

Por enquanto toda esta informação não passa de um rumor, até porque o próprio perito não conseguiu verificar a existência da suposta base de dados onde todo este "negócio" se desenrola. Ainda assim, este adiciona ainda à sua lista de especulações a possibilidade dos hackers serem europeus, sendo que o fórum PSX-Scene apresenta algumas imagens que reiteram essa mesma suspeita.

Resta-nos aguardar por declarações da Sony sobre este mesmo tema.

Yesterday, we addressed a number of your questions< relating to the malicious intrusion into our network. You can find that FAQ here. As we get closer to restoration of service, here are more answers to your questions, many of which are more gaming related:

Q: Will our download history/friends list/settings be affected by the PSN downtime?
A: No, they will not.

Q: Will trophies that were earned in single-player offline games during the outage be intact when the service resumes?
A: These trophies are intact and will be re-synched when the network is once again operational.

Q: Will my PS+ cloud saves be retrievable?
A: Yes, once PSN is restored.

Q: What if we have a subscription to PS3 MMOs DC Universe Online or Free Realms? Will we get compensation for that?
A: From Sony Online Entertainment: “We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio. We are also working on a “make good” plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums.”

Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven’t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?
A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.

Issue With Leaving Comments

We are aware that you may no longer be able to log-in to the PlayStation.Blog and leave comments. This is because every time you log-in using your PlayStation Network ID, a cookie is created to keep you logged in for one week. These cookies have now started to expire and you will not be able to log back in until PSN has been restored.

However, you can still read the PlayStation.Blog without logging in and I will continue to post any news as soon as I hear of it.

In the meantime, please leave any questions or feedback on the following official PlayStation twitter feeds.

Hacker culpa "arrogância da sony" por fuga de dados

No seu blog oficial, GeoHot condena ataque e afirma que executivos da empresa pagaram o preço por não entenderem cultura hacker.

Após ser processado pela Sony por partilhar um código que permite o “desbloqueamento” do PlayStation 3, o hacker GeoHot culpou a arrogância dos executivos da empresa pela recente fuga de dados dos usuários da rede PlayStation Network (PSN).

Atualmente proibido de hackear os produtos da fabricante japonesa, George Hotz publicou um post no seu blog acusando a empresa de pagar o preço por não entender a cultura hacker.

“Não vamos culpar os engenheiros da Sony por isto. A culpa é dos executivos que declararam guerra contra os hackers, riram da ideia de pessoas a penetrarem o forte que a Sony já foi, reclamaram incessantemente sobre pirataria e continuaram a contratar mais advogados quando precisavam na verdade é de bons especialistas em segurança”, escreveu o hacker, que “fez as pazes” com a Sony por meio de um acordo apenas alguns dias antes da invasão à PSN. “Alienar a comunidade hacker não é uma boa ideia.”

Hotz, que já era famoso por fazer jaibreak no iPhone, tornou-se uma espécie de “ícone hacker” depois de o departamento legal da Sony usar táticas pesadas, incluindo pedir ao juiz permissão para ver os endereços de IP de pessoas que visitaram o site do hacker – aparentemente querendo desencorajar os usuários de copiar e distribuir esse tipo de software.

A batalha entre Hotz e a Sony ilustra as tensões crescentes entre as companhias que constroem os produtos e os consumidores que os possuem – em especial, entusiastas hackers que querem modificar os aparelhos que compraram de forma legítima.

Hotz afirma ter hackeado o PlayStation para rodar o sistema Linux. Já a Sony alega que o software dele violou a lei de direitos digitais dos EUA, que proíbe a chamada engenharia reversa em proteções criptografadas.

Quando a rede online da Sony ficou offline na última semana, algumas pessoas pensaram que o ataque poderia ter acontecido em retaliação pela perseguição da Sony a Hotz.

No seu blog, Hotz ainda aproveita para dizer que não teve nada a ver com o ataque e que condena tal prática. “Eu não sou louco, e preferiria não ter o FBI a bater à minha porta”, escreveu. “Rodar programas caseiros e explorar a segurança em meu aparelho é legal, mas hackear o servidor de outra pessoa e roubar bases de dados de informações de usuários não é legal.”

PSN crisis: U.S. Homeland Security, FBI helping Sony root out hackers

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is helping investigate the recent PlayStation Network data breach that left over 77 million users' private information at risk.

"The Department of Homeland Security is aware of the recent cyber intrusion to Sony's PlayStation Network and Qriocity music service," DHS spokesman Chris Ortman told NextGov. "DHS' U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team is working with law enforcement, international partners and Sony to assess the situation."

Typically, Homeland Security abstains from assisting private companies. This seems to be an exception. Earlier this year, the department helped investigate the NASDAQ stock market hack. FBI is also investigating the Sony data breach.

"The FBI is aware of the reports concerning the alleged intrusion into the Sony online game server and we have been in contact with Sony concerning this matter," said FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth in a statement. "We are presently reviewing the available information in an effort to determine the facts and circumstances concerning this alleged criminal activity."

PlayStation Network data at risk may include user credit card information, email accounts, passwords, addresses, security questions, and general profile information.

Anonymous has revealed that their next attack against Sony will be carried out when the PlayStation Network is back online.
When we asked Anonymous member Kato – who
will be involved in the next attack against Sony – via their IRC about
the group’s future plans regarding attacks on Sony, Kato told VGN365
that they are currently preparing their next attack against Sony; it’ll
be scheduled to happen when the PlayStation Network is back online – the attack will NOT be against the PSN, just to clarify.
Anonymous will not do anything to disrupt the PlayStation Network.
The contents of the attack has yet to be revealed but be sure to
stick with VGN365 for any updates regarding what the attack will
actually do to Sony.

SOME PLAYSTATION NETWORK AND QRIOCITY SERVICES TO BE AVAILABLE THIS WEEK
Phased Global Rollout of Services to Begin Regionally; System Security Enhanced to Provide Greater Protection of Personal Information.
Tokyo, May 1, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) announced they will shortly begin a phased restoration by region of PlayStation®Network and Qriocity™ services, beginning with gaming, music and video services to be turned on. The company also announced both a series of immediate steps to enhance security across the network and a new customer appreciation program to thank its customers for their patience and loyalty.
Following a criminal cyber-attack on the company’s data-center located in San Diego, California, U.S.A., SNEI quickly turned off the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services, engaged multiple expert information security firms over the course of several days and conducted an extensive audit of the system. Since then, the company has implemented a variety of new security measures to provide greater protection of personal information. SNEI and its third-party experts have conducted extensive tests to verify the security strength of the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. With these measures in place, SCE and SNEI plan to start a phased rollout by region of the services shortly. The initial phase of the rollout will include, but is not limited to, the following:
• Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation®3 (PS3) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems
• This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
• Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
• Access to account management and password reset
• Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
• PlayStation®Home
• Friends List
• Chat Functionality
Working closely with several outside security firms, the company has implemented significant security measures to further detect unauthorized activity and provide consumers with greater protection of their personal information. The company is also creating the position of Chief Information Security Officer, directly reporting to Shinji Hasejima, Chief Information Officer of Sony Corporation, to add a new position of expertise in and accountability for customer data protection and supplement existing information security personnel. The new security measures implemented include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
• Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
• Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
• Implementation of additional firewalls
The company also expedited an already planned move of the system to a new data center in a different location that has been under construction and development for several months. In addition, PS3 will have a forced system software update that will require all registered PlayStation Network users to change their account passwords before being able to sign into the service. As an added layer of security, that password can only be changed on the same PS3 in which that account was activated, or through validated email confirmation, a critical step to help further protect customer data.
The company is conducting a thorough and on-going investigation and working with law enforcement to track down and prosecute those responsible for the illegal intrusion.
“This criminal act against our network had a significant impact not only on our consumers, but our entire industry. These illegal attacks obviously highlight the widespread problem with cyber-security. We take the security of our consumers’ information very seriously and are committed to helping our consumers protect their personal data. In addition, the organization has worked around the clock to bring these services back online, and are doing so only after we had verified increased levels of security across our networks,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “Our global audience of PlayStation Network and Qriocity consumers was disrupted. We have learned lessons along the way about the valued relationship with our consumers, and to that end, we will be launching a customer appreciation program for registered consumers as a way of expressing our gratitude for their loyalty during this network downtime, as we work even harder to restore and regain their trust in us and our services.”
Complimentary Offering and “Welcome Back” Appreciation Program
While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, the company is committed to helping its customers protect their personal data and will provide a complimentary offering to assist users in enrolling in identity theft protection services and/or similar programs. The implementation will be at a local level and further details will be made available shortly in each region.
The company will also rollout the PlayStation Network and Qriocity “Welcome Back” program, to be offered worldwide, which will be tailored to specific markets to provide our consumers with a selection of service options and premium content as an expression of the company’s appreciation for their patience, support and continued loyalty.
• Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
• All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
• Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.
Additional “Welcome Back” entertainment and service offerings will be rolled out over the coming weeks as the company returns the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services to the quality standard users have grown to enjoy and strive to exceed those exceptions.
SNEI will continue to reinforce and verify security for transactions before resuming the PlayStation®Store and other Qriocity operations, scheduled for this month.

Muito bem... a sony vai oferecer o psn plus aos membros que nao tem... por um mes por isso aproveitem...=) e aos outros oferece um mes gratis a quem paga psn plus=) é uma boa recompensa!

Este post pode parecer um bocado offtopic mas serve apenas para demonstrar que o "welcome back" da sony não é assim tão mau como aqui li.
Eu nem sabia mas ao que parece aqui à uns tempos também o serviço Xlive esteve em baixo uma serie de tempo, alguém me sabe dizer como é que a microsoft compensou os seus jogadores na altura?

OMG! Sony foi atacada de novo.

A Sony foi forçada a encerrar os serviços da SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) após a descoberta de um problema de grande preocupação para a empresa.

No site oficial encontra-se um comunicado oficial que diz o seguinte:

"Tivemos de encerrar os serviços da SOE temporariamente. No decurso da investigação acerca da intrusão aos nossos sistemas, nós descobrimos um problema preocupante o suficiente para desligarmos os serviços de imediato."

Por estas afirmações podemos deduzir que não houve uma nova intrusão mas sim, uma descoberta de um problema que obrigou a Sony a deitar os serviços abaixo.

A empresa promete uma actualização da situação mais tarde.

Para os curiosos, a SOE é uma divisão da Sony que desenvolve e publica jogos, sendo bastante conhecida pelo EverQuest, EverQuest 2, The Matrix Online, PlanetSide, Star Wars Galaxies e DC Universe Online.

SOE hacked: 12,700 credit card numbers and 24.6 million accounts may have been compromised

PlayStation Network Security Update

On Tuesday, April 26 we shared that some information that was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. Once again, we’d like to apologize to the many users who were inconvenienced and worried abut this situation.

We want to state this again given the increase in speculation about credit card information being used fraudulently. One report indicated that a group tried to sell millions of credit card numbers back to Sony. To my knowledge there is no truth to this report of a list, or that Sony was offered an opportunity to purchase the list.

One other point to clarify is from this weekend’s press conference. While the passwords that were stored were not “encrypted,” they were transformed using a cryptographic hash function. There is a difference between these two types of security measures which is why we said the passwords had not been encrypted. But I want to be very clear that the passwords were not stored in our database in cleartext form. For a description of the difference between encryption and hashing, follow this link.

To reiterate a few other security measures for your information: Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well. To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports.

We continue to work with law enforcement and forensic experts to identify the criminals behind the attack. Once again, we apologize for causing users concern over this matter.

Our objective is to increase security so our customers can safely and confidently play games and use our network and media services. We will continue to provide updates as we have them.

Mas isso ira afectar a PSN, por exemplo a gente era susposto jogar hoje nao??

Os servicos eram pa tar a dar hoje e sao 4.30 da manha e ainda nada.

Nao vai afectar a psn , pois no Japao a psn Ja esta online desde ontem e foi lançado um firmware 3.61, quem tiver contas japonesas já consegue entrar.

mas como ainda não foi lançado nem na América nem na Europa o firmware 3.61 , qualquer pessoa na Europa ou América não vai conseguir entrar nas contas japonesas ate que na Europa saia esse firmware.

No que toca a estes hackers, estou a ver que eles vao atacando aos poucos, mas fazem sempre prejuizos...

ataques cirúrgicos ou ñ darão sempre prejuízo, isso é verdade. essa cambada de "acaros" esquece-se q o tempo passa e mais tarde ou mais cedo as entidades competentes entram-lhes pela porta dentro e levam com um ataque q nunca mais se levantam. estou confiante
